【ローマ】フォロ・ロマーノと古代ローマ④ Roma - Foro Romano and Ancient Roma : Part-4

 

カエサルの神殿があった周囲には、カストルとボックスの神殿やヴェスタの神殿などの遺跡が立っている。

古代ローマにはギリシャと共通する独自の宗教があったが、領土が広がるに連れて、征服した地域からその地域で信仰されていた宗教がローマに持ち込まれた。

その最たるものはキリスト教だが、それ以前にも、エジプトやメソポタミアの宗教が一時期、ローマで信仰されていたこともあった。

ローマ帝国は、政治的、軍事的には多く国を滅ぼし、あるいは支配したが、その国や地域の周上や文化がローマに入ってくることには概ね寛容だったようだ。

Ancient Rome had its own religion in common with Greece, but as the territory expanded, the religion that was worshiped in that area was brought into Rome from the conquered area.

The best of these is Christianity, but even before that, Egyptian and Mesopotamian religions were once worshiped in Rome.

The Roman Empire destroyed or ruled many nations politically and militarily, but seemed to be generally tolerant of the circumstance and culture of the nation or region entering Rome.

永遠の都と言われたローマだが、330年にコンスタンティヌス帝はローマ帝国の都を東方のビザンティオン、現在のイスタンブールに移すことに決めた。新しい都は、コンスタンチノープルと呼ばれた。

当時のローマは、東方の国々との交流や時には戦争などが多くなり、帝国の活動の中心は東方に移っていた。

ローマを中心とした帝国の西の地域では、フン族の侵攻に影響されてゲルマン民族の大移動が引き起こされて、410年にはアラリック率いる西ゴート族によって蹂躙された。

そして、476年には傭兵オドアケルによって西ローマ皇帝が廃されて、西ローマ帝国は滅亡してしまった。

この時をもって、ローマ帝国の滅亡と考える人たちも多い。しかし、東ローマ帝国は、オスマン帝国のメフメット2世によって1453年に滅ぼされるまで、その後さらに1000年も続くことになる。

In Rome at that time, exchanges with eastern countries and sometimes wars increased, and the center of empire's activities moved to the east.

In the western part of the empire centered on Rome, the invasion of the Huns caused a large migration of the Germanic people, and in 410 it was overrun by the Visigoths led by Alaric.

Then, in 476, the Western Roman Emperor was abolished by the mercenary Odoacer, and the Western Roman Empire was destroyed.

At this time, many people think that the Roman Empire is destroyed. However, the Byzantine Empire would continue for another 1000 years until it was destroyed in 1453 by Mehmed II of the Ottoman Empire.

フォロ・ロマーノのすぐ隣には、パラティーノの丘がある。

ローマには7つの丘があると言われ、元々はそれぞれの丘に住んでいた人々が、ローマを建国したと言われている。

フォロ・ロマーノに近いこのパラティーノの丘には、古代ローマの重要人物が多く住んでいたと言われ、初代皇帝アスグストゥスの住まいの跡などもある。

残念ながら、今回の旅ではパラティーノの丘を訪れる機会はなく、フォロ・ロマーノから眺望を眺めるだけで終わってしまった。

Right next to the Roman Forum is the Palatine Hill.

It is said that there are seven hills in Rome, and it is said that the people who originally lived in each hill founded Rome.

It is said that many important figures from ancient Rome lived on this Palatine Hill near the Roman Forum, and there are also traces of the residence of the first emperor Asgustus.

Unfortunately, I didn't have the opportunity to visit Palatine Hill on this trip, just looking at the view from the Roman Forum.
