【ローマ】ピンチョの丘からボルゲーゼ美術館へ Roma - Monto Pincio, Museo e Galleria Borghese

 

ローマ市内が一望できるピンチョの丘。展望テラスの背後には広い庭園が広がっている。

これまで、石畳で両側に建物が連なっているローマの街中を歩くことが多かったので、緑に囲まれた真っ直ぐな道を歩いた時には、素晴らしい開放感を味わうことができた。

このピンチョの丘は、いわゆる古代ローマの7つの丘には数えられていない。それでも古代ローマ時代から、有力者たちがこの地にヴィラや庭園を作ってきた。

ピンチョ、という名前はそうした裕福な一族の名前から取られている。

I had been walking in the streets of Rome by then, which is cobbled and has buildings on both sides, so when I walked on a straight road surrounded by greenery, I was able to experience a wonderful sense of openness.

This Passeggiata del Pin is not counted as one of the seven hills of ancient Rome. Nevertheless, since ancient Roman times, influential people have built villas and gardens here.

The name Pincho is taken from the name of such a wealthy clan.

ピンチョの丘をしばらく進んでいくと、その下を2車線の車道が走る巨大な鉄橋が現れた。そこを渡ると、再び木々が生い茂った緑豊かな公園がある。そこがボルゲーゼ公園だった。

この公園は、1605年にシピオーネ・ボルゲーゼがブドウ畑だったところを買い取って、公園に作り替えたもの。

この公園の奥の方に、ここまで足を運んだ目的のボルゲーゼ美術館がある。

この壮麗な建物は、フラミニオ・ポンツィオによって設計され、1613年に完成したが、ポンツィオ自身はその目前で急死してしまった。

ポンツィオは、ドメニコ・フォンタナとも短い期間だが一緒に活動したことがある建築家だった。

Proceeding along the Passeggiata hill for a while, a huge iron bridge with a two-lane roadway appeared under it. Crossing there, you will find a lush park with trees again. That was Villa Borghese.

This park was converted into a park by Scipione Borghese buying a vineyard in 1605.

At the back of this park is the Borghese Gallery, which I visited so far.

This magnificent building was designed by Flaminio Flaminio and completed in 1613, but Ponzio himself died suddenly in front of him.

Ponzio was an architect who had worked with Domenico Fontana for a short period of time.

ボルゲーゼ家はシエナの名門だったが、カミッロ・ボルゲーゼがローマに居を移した。

カミッロはレメンス8世の手によって枢機卿に推薦され、その後レオ11世の後を継いで1605年にローマ教皇に選ばれ、パウルス5世として1621年までその地位にあった。

カミッロの甥だったシピオーネ・ボルゲーゼは枢機卿となり、叔父の教皇の権威の元で巨大な富と権力を手にすることになる。

ボルゲーゼ美術館のコレクションの多くは、このシピオーネが枢機卿の時代に収集したもの。

カラヴァジオらベルニーニなどのローマのバロックを代表する作品が展示されている。

The Borghese family was a prestigious Siena, but Camillo Borghese moved to Rome.

Camillo was nominated by Cardinal by Remens VIII, then succeeded by Pope Leo XI and was elected Pope in 1605, and remained in that position until 1621.

Camillo's nephew, Scipione Borghese, becomes a cardinal and gains enormous wealth and power under the authority of his uncle, the Pope.

Many of the Borghese Gallery's collections were collected by this Sipione during the Cardinal era.

Works representing Roman baroque such as Caravagio and Bernini are on display.

美術館の入り口は、地下に設けられている。そこで厳しいセキュリティ・チェックを受けてから中に入り、階段を上がった最初の第1室には、部屋の中央にカノーヴァの『ヴィーナス・ヴィクトリクスとしてのパオリーナ・ボルゲーゼの肖像』が恭しく展示されていた。

アントニオ・カノーヴァは、18世紀末から19世紀の初頭にかけて活躍した彫刻家で、新古典主義を代表する芸術家の一人。

これまでにも、ヴェネツィアやフィレンツェでカノーヴァの作品を目にしてきたが、カノーヴァの活動の中心はこのローマだった。

ローマにあったカノーヴァのアトリエには、ヨーロッパ中から訪れた芸術家の卵たちが弟子として働いていた。

作品のモデルとなっているパオリーナ・ボルゲーゼは、ナポレオンの末の妹でボルゲーゼ家に嫁いだ。兄のナポレオンからの圧力で、ボルゲーゼ家は500点に及ぶ美術品をフランスに売却することを余儀なくされた。

その後、ボルゲーゼ家はそうした失った美術品のいくつかを買い戻したが、今でもその多くはフランスにあるという。

ボルゲーゼ家にとっては辛い歴史を思い起こさせる彫刻作品が、第1室に展示されていることに、やや複雑な感情を抱いてしまった。

The entrance to the museum is located in the basement. After undergoing a strict security check, the first room, which went up the stairs, had Canova's "Portrait of Paolina Borghese as Venus Victorics" displayed in the center of the room. ..

Antonio Canova was a sculptor who was active from the end of the 18th century to the beginning of the 19th century, and is one of the leading artists of neoclassicalism.

He has seen Canova's work in Venice and Florence before, but the center of Canova's activities was in Rome.

At the Canova atelier in Rome, the eggs of artists from all over Europe worked as disciples.

Paolina Borghese, the model for the work, is Napoleon's youngest sister and married to the Borghese family. Pressure from her brother Napoleon forced the Borghese family to sell 500 works of art to France.

Later, the Borghese family bought back some of those lost works of art, many of which are still in France.

For the Borghese family, the sculptures reminiscent of a painful history were exhibited in the first room, which made me feel a little complicated.
