【ローマ】国立21世紀美術館（MAXXI）未来的な空間 Roma - Museo Nazionale delle Arti XXI Secolo (MAXXI), Futuristic space

 

MAXXIの建物に入ると、それまで見たことがない、不思議な空間が来場者を出迎える。

外部はコンクリート打ちっぱなしで素っ気がない印象だが、内部はそのコンクリートに白と黒が合わさって、来場者の気持ちを引き締めてくれる。

Upon entering the MAXXI building, visitors are greeted by a mysterious space that they have never seen before.

The exterior is bare concrete and gives a dull impression, but the interior is made up of white and black mixed with the concrete, which tightens the minds of visitors.

上を見上げると、天井までの吹き抜けの空間だが、黒い外側の曲線に溢れた回廊がアクセントになっていて、そこから発している白い光が降り注いでいる。

その回廊の端が見えないようになっているので、その先に空間がずっと広がっているように錯覚してしまう。

When you look up, you can see that it is a space with an atrium that reaches to the ceiling, but it is accented by a corridor filled with black curves on the outside, and the white light that emanates from it pours down.

Since the end of the corridor is hidden from view, it gives the illusion that the space extends far beyond.

1階（Level 0）にも展示スペースはあるが、メインの展示スペースは2階（Level 1）にある。

L字型の建物のスペース全体が展示に割かれて、その中に壁がないので、ずっと先の方まで空間が広がっていて、その広大なスペースをゆっくりと巡ることができる。

There is also an exhibition space on the first floor (Level 0), but the main exhibition space is on the second floor (Level 1).

The entire space of the L-shaped building is devoted to the exhibition, and since there are no walls in the space, the space extends far ahead, and you can leisurely walk around the vast space.

この美術館を訪れた時は、イタリアの現代アーティスト、マリア・ライの大規模な回顧展が行われていた。

ライは、1913年に生まれて、2013年に亡くなった女性アーティストで、様々な素材を使ったユニークな作品で知られているという。

寡聞にも、この展覧会で初めてその名前を知った。

When I visited the museum, a large-scale retrospective of Italian contemporary artist Maria Lai was being held.

Lai, born in 1913 and died in 2013, is a female artist known for her unique works using a variety of materials.

She heard her name for the first time at this exhibition.

あやとりなどの伝統的なテーマや、地図やノートなどを素材にした作品、テキスタイルや衣装など、その作品は多彩で、とても1人のアーティストの活動とは思えないほどだった。

日本でも、いつか紹介されたら、興味を持つ人が多くいるのではないか。

There was such a wide variety of works, including traditional themes such as cat-cats, works based on maps and notebooks, textiles and costumes, and it was hard to believe that this was the work of a single artist.

Even in Japan, if it were introduced someday, I think there would be many people who would be interested.

建物の外から見て、細い回廊が飛び出しているように見えた部分も、展示スペースになっていた。

一面のガラス窓から、外の風景も見ることができる。

The part that looked like a narrow corridor protruding from the outside of the building was also an exhibition space.

You can see the outside scenery from the glass window on one side.

ザハの作り上げた不思議な空間は、まるで広大な宇宙を旅をしている宇宙船の中にいるような錯覚を覚えた。

映画『2001年宇宙の旅』に登場する、宇宙船ディスカバリー号の内部の映像を思い出した。

The mysterious space created by Zaha gave me the illusion of being in a spaceship traveling through the vastness of space.

I remembered footage of the interior of the spacecraft Discovery in the movie 2001: A Space Odyssey.
