【ナポリ】バロック時代のナポリへ Napoli - To Baroque Naples

ローマから列車でおよそ2時間、今回の旅の4番目の訪問地、ナポリに到着した。

ナポリはイタリアの南部の最大都市で、300万人もの人々がその都市圏で暮らし、イタリア全体でもローマ、ミラノに次ぐ3番目の都市となっている。

ナポリ駅も巨大で、これまで見たミラノ、ローマ駅に劣らないほど巨大だ。

About two hours by train from Rome, I arrived at Naples, the fourth destination of this trip.

Naples is the largest city in southern Italy, with 3 million people living in its metropolitan area, making it the third largest city in Italy after Rome and Milan.

The Naples station is also gigantic, as huge as the Milan and Roma stations I've seen so far.

ナポリというと、雑然とした町という印象があったが、駅の構内は建物が新しくキレイだった。

1994年にナポリでサミットが開かれるにあたって、当時のイタリア首相のベルルスコーニは、ナポリをサミットに相応しい都市にするべく巨額の投資を行なった。

この美しいナポリ駅は、そのおかげということらしい。

When I heard Naples, I had the impression that it was a cluttered town, but the station premises were new and beautiful.

When the summit was held in Naples in 1994, then Italian Prime Minister Berlusconi made a huge investment to make Naples a suitable city for the summit.

This beautiful Naples station seems to be thanks to that.

ナポリは、18世紀にスペイン・ブルボン家の支配の元に繁栄し、ナポリ王国の首都としてローマやミラノを凌いでヨーロッパでも屈指の大都市だった。

この旅では、そのバロック期のナポリの面影を辿ることがその目的だった。

しかし、ナポリ王国時代は13世紀から始まっており、その古い時代の記憶にも触れることができた。

Naples prospered under the rule of the Spanish Bourbon family in the 18th century, and as the capital of the Kingdom of Naples, it surpassed Rome and Milan as one of the largest cities in Europe.

The purpose of this trip was to trace the remnants of Naples in the Baroque period.

However, the Kingdom of Naples started from the 13th century, and I was able to touch on the memories of that old age.

バロックの時代には、ヨーロッパ中のセレブ達が一度は訪れたいと願ったという、そのナポリの町に繰り出していこう。
